Over the past two months eleven contestants have been aggressively practicing and preparing for the 2019-20 Miss Black and Gold Scholarship Program. The pageant is set for January 31, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. in the Opal Johnson Smith Auditorium, Memorial Student Center at Prairie View A&M University.
The Miss Black and Gold Pageant is a long standing tradition for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. beginning in 1976 when the first pageant was held in New York City. Following a long hiatus, the pageant was restored in 1982 at the fraternity's general convention in Los Angeles. The local chapters, Eta Gamma and Epsilon Tau Lambda, hosted its first pageant in 1981 and continues to participate in the national program through the present.
This year's contestants include Tiara Bailey, Angel Butler, Jamedria Barrett, Richanda Berry, Jaelyn Green, Erin Haven, Melanie Hollis, Jane Olear, Z'Nae Mangum, Kala Washington and Tijahnae Wells.
