The Miss Old Gold and Black Scholarship Competition (MOG&BSC) is a self contained program sponsored the chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and depends on funds raised through contestant entry fees, chapter contributions, donations, with the greater part coming through advertisements and sponsorships.
As such, the organization requires each contestant to assist in the fundraising by selling at least (minimum) $700 in Advertisement for the Souvenir Booklet. The sale of the Ads does not count toward winning the title, however, the contestant selling the most ads is awarded a special prize, a plaque and in some instances a gift card equating to the application fee for the pageant. If the minimum ad sales is not reached by the Established Deadline, the contestant understands that she may be disqualified and withdrawn from the pageant.
